• Maggy (Magdalena) Rieser - successfully completed her hotel management studies in 2014 and is now at the reception desk and in service full time. She has passed the training to sommelier with flying colors. Wine is her passion and vocation and she is the first contact person for our guests in the restaurant. 
• Sepp Rieser Senior, he has been "a bastion of calm" at the Karwendel since 1960, and even today he is involved in all important family decisions.
• Seppi Junior - born on January 23rd, 2014, he is the pride and joy of the family and of everyone at Hotel Karwendel.
• Emilia - the stork brought her on May 21, 2015. :-) She's our sunshine and full of power. 
• Leonhard - Our baby, born on 29.05.2019, has completed our happy family.

From a coffee shop to a hotel 

Welcome to our wellness home at Lake Achensee

In order to create something big, you first need a vision as a driving force. And then you require plenty of courage and foresight to invest in the right changes at the right times. Find out here how the Rieser family transformed a coffee shop on the Achensee into one of the leading Achensee hotels.

• 2011: The kitchen is expanded and the new Organic luxury rooms are built: anti-allergenic rooms with exclusive wooden floors and large bathrooms.
• 2013: Awarded a "toque" for the "Wilderergourmetstube" restaurant by the Gault Millau Guide 2014 (13 points) as well as "1 fork" in the Falstaff Guide 2014.
• 2014: Renovation of multiple rooms as well as the creation of new "Relax Suites" with infra-red cabins and Samina sleeping systems.
• 2016: Largest investment in our history with the creation of the new Karwendel Sky Spa on the 3rd and 4th floor of the hotel with an unobstructed view of Lake Achensee - "a bit closer to heaven". The spa area was doubled in size and is now 2,800m² and 8 new room categories were established (22 rooms were renovated completely). The total number of rooms was increased from 58 to 69. The Josefistube was built and the Panorama restaurant Lichtspiel and the buffet area were expanded extensively.
• 2018: Conversion of 8 rooms to the new Wellness-Nestl junior rooms and extension of the sun deck at the Sky-Pool for even more relaxation area for our guests with a panoramic view. 
• 2021: Renovation of 20 rooms - we created the new Alpinjuwel, Alpencharme, Schmuckkastl and Schmuckkastl Junior rooms. The new Alpinjuwel rooms in a modern alpine style and with air-conditioning offer even more comfort for our guests.
• 2023: Construction of the Alpine Food Boutique - where good taste is at home... Our new buffet experience includes a juice room, show-cooking area, and many other great amenities in a modern Alpine look. It was finished in May 2023 and is waiting to be discovered by our guests. The high-quality interior decorations and native plants make the Alpine Food Boutique a stylish meeting place.
• 2024: Our junior manager Seppi took over full responsibility at the hotel at the start of the year. The entire Karwendel FAMILY is also at his side - be it with tips and advice within the "Family Council" or the well-established TEAM with many familiar faces and of course the whole family, who continue to lend a hand every day at the Karwendel.On the other hand, a lot is also happening because this year we have realised the construction of the hotel's own underground car park, where your car will be perfectly parked from early summer 2024 (incl. from the Alpinjuwel category).
