Sepp Rieser - hotelier and farmer by vocation
Steffi Rieser - your passionate host at the Karwendel. From early until late she flits through the hotel like a whirlwind and makes sure that everything is OK, that nothing has been forgotten and that the hotel is beautifully decorated. Her children unanimously agree: "Our mum is without a doubt the heart of Hotel Karwendel."
Seppi Rieser -Managing director & owner of the hotel. Manages hotel reception and marketing with great vigour & is responsible for the commercial area and the continuous development of the business. Contact person for employees and those who want to become one.
Anja Rieser – wife of Seppi and meanwhile fully integrated in the Karwendel since 2010. She brilliantly combines the job of mother to three children with the task of reservations and reception. Thanks to her ideas and enthusiasm, she is an enrichment for Das Karwendel and a wonderful woman at Seppi's side.
Stevie (Stefanie) Rieser - a dedicated chef. She has wanted to be a chef since she was a child and has now put that into practice. The middle child.

Maggy (Magdalena) Rieser - successfully completed her hotel management studies in 2014 and is now at the reception desk and in service full time. She has passed the training to sommelier with flying colors. Wine is her passion and vocation and she is the first contact person for our guests in the restaurant.
Sepp Rieser Senior, he has been "a bastion of calm" at the Karwendel since 1960, and even today he is involved in all important family decisions.
Seppi Junior - born on January 23rd, 2014, he is the pride and joy of the family and of everyone at Hotel Karwendel.
Emilia - the stork brought her on May 21, 2015. :-) She's our sunshine and full of power.
Leonhard - Our baby, born on 29.05.2019, has completed our happy family.

From a coffee shop to a hotel

In order to create something big, you first need a vision as a driving force. And then you require plenty of courage and foresight to invest in the right changes at the right times. Find out here how the Rieser family transformed a coffee shop on the Achensee into one of the leading Achensee hotels.

The history of

Das Karwendel - Ihr Zuhause am Achensee

1960: Karla and Sepp Rieser acquire the Karwendel Café
1965: The Vienna-style café is converted into a Tyrolean-style local pub
1967: The Stegerhof farm in Eben is purchased and converted into a modern cattle farm
1973: Construction of Hotel Panorama
1977: Expansion of Hotel Karwendel
1983: Further expansion of Hotel Karwendel
1985: Expansion of Hotel Panorama
1989: Construction of the "Badestube" water parlour, with a sauna, steam bath, etc. at Hotel Karwendel
1990: Construction of the Karwendel cottage, located 150 m from the main building. (Now owned and managed by Manfred and Burgi Rieser.)
1998: Expansion of Hotel Karwendel with the Swiss pine parlour and hotel bar
1999: Purchase of the Gramai Alpine guesthouse including the Gramai Alpine pasture, mountain lodge and hunting area. (Alpine Guesthouse Gramai now owned and managed by Adi and Gabi Rieser.)
2004: Hotels Karwendel and Panorama are connected, while investments are made in the wellness area, indoor and outdoor pool, vitality garden and a new hotel bar with an integrated dining room.
Certified the 1st Alpine Wellness Hotel in Tyrol.
2005: The rooms in the "Panorama" building section are modernised. All rooms are designed in Swiss pine and with salt stone lamps and are now known as the Sonnjoch rooms and the Achensee suites.
2006: Modernisation and merging of the rooms in the main building. All rooms are designed in Swiss pine and with salt stone lamps. The hotel is awarded the rating 4-star-Superior.
2009: Extension of the 4th floor of what was Hotel Panorama, resulting in the creation of the new Junior suites and the Panorama luxury suite. All rooms built with Swiss pine panelling and furnished with salt stone lamps and hand-made tiled stoves.
